¹⁰ This day you have seen with your own eyes how the Lord delivered you into my hands in the cave. Some urged me to kill you, but I spared^(A) you; I said, ‘I will not lay my hand on my lord, because he is the Lord’s anointed.’ ¹¹ See, my father, look at this piece of your robe in my hand! I cut^(B) off the corner of your robe but did not kill you. See that there is nothing in my hand to indicate that I am guilty^(C) of wrongdoing^(D) or rebellion. I have not wronged^(E) you, but you are hunting^(F) me down to take my life.^{(G) 12} May the Lord judge^(H) between you and me. And may the Lord avenge^(I) the wrongs you have done to me, but my hand will not touch you.

⁹ But David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him! Who can lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed^(A) and be guiltless?^(B)

²³ The Lord rewards^(A) everyone for their righteousness^(B) and faithfulness. The Lord delivered^(C) you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed.

¹⁴ David asked him, “Why weren’t you afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?^(A)”

¹⁵ Then David called one of his men and said, “Go, strike him down!”^(B) So he struck him down, and he died.^{(C) 16} For David had said to him, “Your blood be on your own head.^(D) Your own mouth testified against you when you said, ‘I killed the Lord’s anointed.’”
